Dr. Van Amerongen started the first Pediatric Emergency Department at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and also founded the Pediatric Emergency Service in the Department of Emergency Medicine, at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn - where he served as Director for 16 years, overseeing its growth from 5,000 to 20,000 patients per year.
He is Board-Certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He is a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he completed his Residency in Pediatrics at North Shore University Hospital / Cornell Medical College, and his Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Bellevue Hospital Center / NYU School of Medicine.
